Thank you for taking an interest in submitting to IrishComics.ie! We’re a little team of four who try our best to spread the word about Irish comic creators, and would love to have you join us on the site.

We have three requirements for participating in the site:

  1. You are Irish or an Irish resident.
  2. You make comics.
  3. The comic is complete.

These rules are straightforward. We only want Irish comic creators, but we’re not going to exclude people who now call Ireland their home. And we don’t want to receive three pages out of eight (for example) and then be stuck without the next page(s).

Right now, we’re looking for more short comics, 4-8 pages in length. We’re especially interested in things that aren’t horror – we have a lot of that at the moment.

We made a handy dandy form for you fill in, which gives you space to provide the creator details for everyone involved in the comic. You can find it below after some important info!

What you need to know to fill in the form

Creator bios should be written in the 3rd person, and profile pictures of creators should be at least 225 x 225 pixels, and square.

When sending your comic pages, send the link to your Google Drive or Dropbox folder with image files suitable for posting online – JPEGs or PNGs only. Make sure the files are numbered in order.

Any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

What are we asking for?

When it comes to creative works, rights and ownership are very important. So, we thought we would spell this out plainly:

  1. We are only looking for a non-exclusive licence to publish the comic, in its entirety and on a page per week basis, through IrishComics.ie, with teasers on social media, for the duration of the site’s existence.
  2. Creators maintain ownership, copyright and all other media rights.

What does that mean?

  • Non-exclusive means we don’t have to be the only place a story is published.
  • We will only be publishing the comic one page at a time through the website, with teaser panels on social media.
  • We won’t be publishing your work in any other form without prior consent.
  • If someone wants to option rights to your comic after reading it here, we have nothing to do with it and will be seeking no financial reward.

The one final important thing to note: no money will exchange hands for the publication of comics through the website. We set this up as a labour of love (in fact, it actually costs us money just to have the site exist) and want to use it to help make more noise about Irish comics. This all means that we won’t be paying to publish works here, but we also aren’t asking people to pay us for the ‘privilege’. (It felt wrong to type that word!)

With all of that said…

How long should it take to hear back?

We run this site on a voluntary basis, and usually talk on video once per week. Sometimes life gets in the way and that doesn’t happen.

Ideally, we’ll be able to respond about interest in a comic within a couple of weeks.

At that point, we will have already looked to see where we can fit your comic into the schedule. (Paul made a whole dang spreadsheet for this very purpose.)

What comics are we not accepting?

We have a short, non-exclusive list of things that we aren’t accepting to the site, for various reasons. Included are:

  1. Fan comics. (We legally cannot publish them, sorry!)
  2. Comics without a plot. (We want comics that tell a story. It doesn’t make your comic lesser if it doesn’t really have a plot, but it’s just not the sort of work we’re interested in sharing here.)
  3. Explicit erotica. (WordPress would suspend our site.)

While there is a general degree of standards we’d like to maintain on the site, those three are among the main reasons why a comic will be rejected.

We may also just not have space in the near future. See above for ‘whole dang spreadsheet’ to help manage this part of the process.
