We’re delighted to announced that IrishComics.ie have been awarded a grant from the Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council under their Arts Grants Scheme 2024. This Open Call is focused on supporting the publication of LGBTQIA+ comic creators who are Irish or living in Ireland. We’re looking for stories where at least one of the creators is both Irish/Irish resident and identifies as LGBTQIA+.

The funds will be used to create and promote Irish comics, by commissioning five short comics to premier on IrishComics.ie during Pride Month, June 2024. Stories will be published digitally on our website only.

What we’re looking for:

  • Pitches for 4-page comics from creative teams or individuals who are Irish or living in Ireland, where at least one person per team is LGBTQIA+
  • Stories do not need to be Pride/LGBTQIA+ in nature
  • No spicy comics (i.e. erotica)
  • No completed projects – we are commissioning you to make new work!
  • No illustrations or prose (comic format only)

What we’re paying:

  • €200 per comic

Deadlines:
5th January: Submissions open
26th January: Submissions closed
4th February: Successful teams are contacted
17th May: Submission of finished pages

The creative teams will retain all ownership to their work and are free to use it anywhere after the complete publication on IrishComics.ie. Successful creators will be asked to provide a headshot and bio for use on our website and promotional materials related to the Open Call.
